Using Email Merge Fields in the Subject Line

One of the new features to come out of the Sphere 9.4.1 release at the end of August was the ability to use merge fields in email subject lines.  I’m sure that this is exciting news for most of the email marketers out there. Let’s take a look at how it works.

The first thing we need to know is what merge fields are supported. Available merge fields for email subject lines are salutation, first name and last name. Next we need to know what format to use when placing them in the subject line. All you need to do is to place double brackets around the name of the merge field. For example your subject line might be:

Thank you [[Salutation]] [[First Name]] [[Last Name]] for registering!

That’s all there is to it! Of course if you need a reminder there is now a help link right next to the subject line field that will tell you what to do.

Any Sphere email which uses the editor can take advantage of these merge fields. That includes not only email blasts created under Communications > Email or Enewsletter but all advanced confirmation emails as well. Happy emailing!
