Update on Blackbaud’s Official Mobile App for The Raiser’s Edge

For those of you looking to expand your mobile access to The Raiser’s Edge, I want to provide a quick update on Blackbaud’s official Raiser’s Edge mobile app, which will be released later this summer and will be included as a benefit of maintenance. The Raiser’s Edge mobile app will include support for iPhone, Android and Blackberry and provide access to important constituent data while you’re on the go. You’ll be able to access up-to-date constituent profiles—right from your smart phone—which means no more lugging around binders or laptops. With constituent information, including recent gift data, at your fingertips and quick access to add and update actions and notes, you’ll always have what you need to make your visits successful.

We are working with customers now to put the finishing touches on the code, and we’ll be going to beta in June. Feel free to contact me at dawn.hollowell@blackbaud.com if you need more details.

You can keep up with us on Twitter by following @bbsupport; we use the hashtag #bbre when we discuss The Raiser’s Edge. Take a look at our Twitter Guide for more information.

Just out of interest what version of Blackberry will this work on?

    • http://twitter.com/hollowelld Dawn Hollowell

      Supported Blackberry versions: 5.x, 6.x, & 7.0

How will this compare with the GoRaiseMobile app that Shawn Sullivan has already developed thru Electric Plum?

    • http://twitter.com/hollowelld Dawn Hollowell

GoRaise mobile is a good example of how open The Raiser’s Edge
can be. Blackbaud’s official Raiser’s Edge mobile app is designed by Blackbaud
with input and direction from Raiser’s Edge customers and is tailored to
support a fundraiser’s workflow. GoRaise mobile uses mobile web browser
technology and the Blackbaud app will be downloaded from the iPhone, Android or
Blackberry “appstore”. This allows the Blackbaud app to take on the look and
feel of the device, making for a very intuitive experience and requiring little
to no end-user training. Lastly, the Blackbaud app will be provided to
customers as a benefit of their maintenance–so as long as you are current on
your maintenance, there will be no additional charge.

Blackbaud’s RE mobile app will be available for hosted and on-premise customers. If you host RE on your servers, you will need to download some web services and install them on a workstation that has 24/7 internet access. This does not need to be a server. Raiser’s Edge must be installed on the machine, but does not have to remain open.

If you had DonorPerfect, you would have this now, and at a fraction of the price.  I don’t expect this to get posted, but it’s something that is simply true and good for the greater non profit community.

    • http://twitter.com/hollowelld Dawn Hollowell

We heard good feedback about the new DonorPerfect mobile app at
the AFP conference in Vancouver. Blackbaud will be going to beta with our
mobile app next month, and we are very excited to put mobile tools in the hands of Raiser’s Edge customers. I believe DonorPerfect and Blackbaud are pricing this functionality the same, providing it to customers as a benefit of their
      maintenance.

What kind of administration tasks will i be able to perform on the mobile app, i.e. every function on the admin and config tab?  In addition, and i know this is a long shot, are there any plans to allow for mobile access to blackbaud management console?  Now that would be freedom!

    • http://twitter.com/hollowelld Dawn Hollowell

In this first release, we are focused on access to constituent data. Users will be able to view the constituent record and be able to enter/edit notes and actions. We’ll also have simple executive dashboards for recent gifts and “my actions” to see due/overdue tasks.

This first release will not provide access to RE admin functionality. However, we are continually talking to customers about additional access they’d like to have from a mobile device. I’d love to get you involved in these discussions as we determine what features should be added. If you are interested in being part of our discovery process, please contact me at dawn.hollowell@blackbaud.com.

Is this realeased? Where can I download it? If not when will it be released?

    • http://twitter.com/hollowelld Dawn Hollowell

We are working with customers now to put the finishing touches on the code, and we’ll be going to beta in a few weeks. If you are interested in being an early adopter, please send me an email at dawn.hollowell@blackbaud.com. Thanks!

Will this app support the Event module? We’d love to use this for check in at galas, etc.

    • http://twitter.com/hollowelld Dawn Hollowell

This first release of the app will not support the Event module, however, we are exploring this functionality for a future release. If you are interested in providing your input as we move through the development process, send me an email at dawn.hollowell@blackbaud.com and we’ll get you involved.

We are on target to release the RE mobile app to all customers in mid-September. If you are interested in being an early adopter, contact me at dawn.hollowell@blackbaud.com We will have a controlled release period beginning in early August where we’ll release the app to approximately 500 customer organizations, and we still have room if you are interested in participating.
As we get closer to release of the app, I’d like to remind customers that The Raiser’s Edge version 7.92 will be required to use the RE mobile app. If you haven’t downloaded and upgraded your system yet, you might want to plan for that in the coming months. For customers that are hosted by Blackbaud, we are still on track to have customers upgraded to 7.92 by the end of July. For more information about RE 7.92, visit
    https://www.blackbaud.com/re-new-release.

You will install a mobile web service on a machine with 24/7 internet connectivity. This process will generate a unique system key that you will distribute to your users. The mobile web service communications through the same ports that you likely use today for other RE web services (like AddressFinder, etc).

  • http://twitter.com/hollowelld Dawn Hollowell

Yes. The app will use the native mapping functionality on your device to map or get directions to a constituent address. Here is a picture of the profile screen for a constituent to give you an idea of what it will look like.

  • John Thatcher

Will the mobile app work for organizations that are hosted on citrix?

  • http://twitter.com/hollowelld Dawn Hollowell

The mobile app will work for all customers whether they host Raiser’s Edge on-site or host with Blackbaud. If you are interested in being part of our controlled release program, send me your site ID and contact info to dawn.hollowell@blackbaud.com.

Will iPad be supported as well?

    • http://twitter.com/hollowelld Dawn Hollowell

The iPhone app can be used on iPad (with the 2X function), but it is not optimized for iPad at this time. We are working on iPad optimization for a future release.

      • Pieter Verhoeven

Hoe soon? It seems a bit of an oversight not to have the app optimised for the iPad. Disapointed

        • http://twitter.com/hollowelld Dawn Hollowell

Hi Pieter – I am pretty sure you are using the app now on iPad as part of our controlled release program. Feel free to update this group on your experience thus far. If anyone else would like screen shots of what the app looks like on an iPad, email me at dawn.hollowell@blackbaud.com
